Better State Environments have just finished helping Albury Conservation Company to submit an expression of interest (EOI) for funding under the NSW Government's Saving Our Species (SOS) program (Round 2). The project was designed around conserving Squirrel Gliders, as well as a small number of threatened woodland bird species, in the Thurgoona/Wirlinga landscape on the northern outskirts of the Murray River city of Albury. The aim of the project is to work alongside key partners to deliver outcomes over the next decade which will hopefully lay the foundations needed to secure viable populations of the species' in 100 years time. It's a tall ask, however conservation projects need to look long into the future. Kudos to the NSW Government for offering such funding programs where they commit 6 years of public investment.
